I want to secure my Internet. I have a negtear router and I think I am getting slow speed. When I tried to connect a new laptop to the Internet, I saw my SSID doesnot have security lock. It us unsecured. I tried to secure the SSID but whenever I save the changes, I lose the connection and I have reset the router. I don’t know how to secure if I am not able to save the settings.

To correct my previous statements:

For question #10, the answers B and E are correct.

The book is misleading here, and the point of the question is this:
WEP and WPAv1 both use the RC4 encryption algorithm, so the algorithm is not any stronger, despite the book saying it has “better encryption”.
Per-frame sequence counters were present in WPAv1, I found this after further research.
Sorry for any confusion.

I say again Question 10 is wrong!

The Cisco material declares that the sequence counters were not added until
WPA2 (AES), insinuating that WPAv1 did NOT have per-frame sequence counters.

In addition to that, here is the chart from the book:

SSID: No Encryption, Basic Authentication, Not a Security Handle
WEP: No Strong Authentication, Static Breakable Keys, Not Scale-able
WPA: Standardized, IMPROVED ENCRYPTION, Strong User-Based Authentication (Lea, Peap)
802.11i/WPA2: AES Encryption, Authentication, Dynamic Key Management

As you can see, the book lists IMPROVED ENCRYPTION under WPAv1 features.

So the correct answers SHOULD be:

A. a stronger encryption algorithm (From the chart)
B. key mixing using temporal keys (WPAv1 uses TKIP- Temporal Key Integrity Protocol)

I know that these SHOULD be the right answers, but does anyone know for sure which are considered correct in the actual EXAM?

I have a problem with Question #10.

It says:

Which two features did WPAv1 add to address the inherent weaknesses found in WEP? (Choose two)

The correct answers are listed as:

B. key mixing using temporal keys
E. per frame sequence counters

But my CCNA Book contradicts the choice (E) as being correct.

The Book states:

“AES has the same functions as TKIP, but it uses additional data from the MAC header that allows destination hosts to recognize if the non-encrypted bits have been tampered with.
It also adds a sequence number to the encrypted data header.”

WPAv1 uses TKIP. The book implies that the sequence counter was NOT present in WPAv1.
This means option E should NOT be a correct answer.

If someone could confirm this I would be very Grateful.

Association (which SSID) comes first before Authentication. Therefore u need to connect first to the SSID before the password.
If the question needs two answers, the answer would be C & D. And since, answer only one, D is right.

WPA addressed the inherit weaknesses found in WEP by adding a stronger encryption algorithm (although it still uses RC4, which isn’t that great), and per frame sequence counters.
