New CCNA – OSPF Questions
Note: If you are not sure about OSPF, please read our OSPF Tutorial.
Question 1
Which characteristics are representative of a link-state routing protocol? (Choose three)
A. provides common view of entire topology
B. exchanges routing tables with neighbors
C. calculates shortest path
D. utilizes event-triggered updates
E. utilizes frequent periodic updates
Answer: A C D
Question 2
Which statements describe the routing protocol OSPF? (Choose three)
A. It supports VLSM.
B. It is used to route between autonomous systems.
C. It confines network instability to one area of the network.
D. It increases routing overhead on the network.
E. It allows extensive control of routing updates
F. It is simpler to configure than RIPv2.
Answer: A C E
Explanation
Answer A and C are obviously correct. For answer E, it allows extensive control of routing updates via Link-State Advertisement (LSA). Administrators can filter these LSAs to meet their requirements easily.
Question 3
A network administrator is trying to add a new router into an established OSPF network. The networks attached to the new router do not appear in the routing tables of the other OSPF routers. Given the information in the partial configuration shown below, what configuration error is causing this problem?
Router(config)# router ospf 1 Router(config-router)# network 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 area 0 |
A. The process id is configured improperly.
B. The OSPF area is configured improperly.
C. The network wildcard mask is configured improperly.
D. The network number is configured improperly.
E. The AS is configured improperly.
F. The network subnet mask is configured improperly.
Answer: C
Question 4
A network associate has configured OSPF with the command:
City(config-router)# network 192.168.12.64 0.0.0.63 area 0
After completing the configuration, the associate discovers that not all the interfaces are participating in OSPF.
Which three of the interfaces shown in the exhibit will participate in OSPF according to this configuration statement? (Choose three)
A. FastEthernet0/0
B. FastEthernet0/1
C. Serial0/0
D. Serial0/1.102
E. Serial0/1.103
F. Serial0/1.104
Answer: B C D
Explanation
The “network 192.168.12.64 0.0.0.63″ equals to network 192.168.12.64/26. This network has:
+ Increment: 64 (/26= 1111 1111.1111 1111.1111 1111.1100 0000)
+ Network address: 192.168.12.64
+ Broadcast address: 192.168.12.127
Therefore all interface in the range of this network will join OSPF -> B C D are correct.
Question 5
What is the default maximum number of equal-cost paths that can be placed into the routing of a Cisco OSPF router?
A. 16
B. 2
C. unlimited
D. 4
Answer: D
Explanation
The default number of equal-cost paths that can be placed into the routing of a Cisco OSPF router is 4. We can change this default value by using “maximum-paths” command:
Router(config-router)#maximum-paths 2
Note: Cisco routers support up to 6 equal-cost paths
Question 6
Which two statements describe the process identifier that is used in the command to configure OSPF on a router? (Choose two)
Router(config)# router ospf 1
A. All OSPF routers in an area must have the same process ID.
B. Only one process number can be used on the same router.
C. Different process identifiers can be used to run multiple OSPF processes
D. The process number can be any number from 1 to 65,535.
E. Hello packets are sent to each neighbor to determine the processor identifier.
Answer: C D
Question 7
Why do large OSPF networks use a hierarchical design? (Choose three)
A. to confine network instability to single areas of the network.
B. to reduce the complexity of router configuration
C. to speed up convergence
D. to lower costs by replacing routers with distribution layer switches
E. to decrease latency by increasing bandwidth
F. to reduce routing overhead
Answer: A C F
Explanation
Hierarchical design of OSPF (basically means that you can separate the larger internetwork into smaller internetworks called areas) helps us create a network with all features listed above (decrease routing overhead, speed up convergence, confine network instability to single areas of the network).
Question 8
Which commands are required to properly configure a router to run OSPF and to add network 192.168.16.0/24 to OSPF area 0? (choose two)
A. Router(config)#router ospf 1
B. Router(config)#router ospf 0
C. Router(config)#router ospf area 0
D. Router(config-router)#network 192.168.16.0 0.0.0.255 area 0
E. Router(config-router)#network 192.168.16.0 0.0.0.255 0
F. Router(config-router)#network 192.168.16.0 255.255.255.0 area 0
Answer: A D
Explanation
In the router ospf command, the ranges from 1 to 65535 so o is an invalid number -> A is correct but B is not correct.
Question 9
Refer to the exhibit. Given the output for this command, if the router ID has not been manually set, what router ID will OSPF use for this RouterD?
RouterD# show ip interface brief
A. 10.1.1.2
B. 10.154.154.1
C. 172.16.5.1
D. 192.168.5.316
Answer: C
Explanation
The highest IP address of all loopback interfaces will be chosen -> Loopback 0 will be chosen as the router ID.
Question 10
What is the default administrative distance of OSPF?
A. 120
B. 100
C. 90
D. 110
Answer: D
Question 2 and Question 10 were in today’s Exam

Go through all the questions in here thoroughly and it will be more than enough for you. Got 947/1000…
Description in question number 5 is incorrect. In IOS release 12.3(2)T (Introduced a long time ago) it will support up to 16 equal cost paths. You are correct that the default is 4 but your description mentions the older pre 12.3(2)T load balancing rules which was limited to 6.
Hi I am planning to give my in end of this month pls can anyone can guide me from where can I get the latest dumps for 200-120 , thanks
Will there be a OSPF lab sim added anytime soon?
How do you determine the highest IP addess from a list? Re: Q9
I PASSED yesterday, thanks to 9tut…..got a 920……woooohhoooo, study up!!!!
Hi
icant see any toutorial in thes site
@CCNA its the highest loopback int
Answer to CCNA’s question regarding question number 9.
1) OSPF router ID is derive from manually configuring the router ID command. 2) If the router ID was not configured manually than ospf router will come from the highest IP address of a loopback interface configured. 3) If no loopback interface was configured the OSPF router will derive from the highest active interface ip address even if that interface network was not configure as part of the network command. Hope this help!

Q3&5 were in today’s exam.
Hi……….
What is the difference between peroidic update and incremental update.
Hello there! I get a question I can not understand so well….
On question 3
A network associate has configured OSPF with the command:
City(config-router)# network 192.168.12.64 0.0.0.63 area 0
After completing the configuration, the associate discovers that not all the interfaces are participating in OSPF.
Which three of the interfaces shown in the exhibit will participate in OSPF according to this configuration statement? (Choose three)
A. FastEthernet0/0
B. FastEthernet0/1
C. Serial0/0
D. Serial0/1.102
E. Serial0/1.103
F. Serial0/1.104
Answer: B C D
I understand the meaning of wildcard 0.0.0.63 which means /26, but, if I cut a subnet /24 using a /26, I could get 4 subnets: 0-63 (1) 64-127 (2) 128-191 (3) 192-255(4) [ID and broadcast respectively], so, why did the answer is only the interfaces such as belongs to subnet from 64 to 127? I mean, the other interfaces belongs to other’s ranges, isnt’ it?
Thanks for your time
Hello Alvaro,
You are right. prefix length is /26.
The possible networks are
1. 192.168.12.0
2. 192.168.12.64
3. 192.168.12.128
4. 192.168.12.192
Here they asked for 192.168.12.64 network. That’s y they choose the interfaces which falls on this network. Hope my explaination is understandable !!
Thank you
I cleared 200-120
Question 9 in today’s exam, IP address of the Loop back changed

I am taking my exam tomorow…..
just finished ccna 917…….. thank you 9tut
Qes 6 : Option D
‘Different process identifiers can be used to run multiple OSPF processes’
are those multiple OSPF processes possible on the same router ???
Hi ,
Can anyone explain the how ospf provides a common veiw of entire topology in Ques1??
Q. 5
default maximum number of equal-cost paths: 8
http://www.cisco.com/web/techdoc/dc/reference/cli/nxos/commands/ospf/maximum-paths__OSPF.html
@Franck
In the link provided that states how to control the maximum equal-cost paths. Which is actually 16 maximum, not 8.
The question is asking what the DEFAULT maximum is. Not what the maximum could be.
Which is why the answer for Q5 is D(Four equal-cost paths)
And also why the # 16 is included
@Justin
Maximum number of parallel routes that OSPF can install in a routing table. The range is from 1 to 16 routes.
Command Default
8 paths
http://www.cisco.com/web/techdoc/dc/reference/cli/nxos/commands/ospf/maximum-paths__OSPF.html
Equal-Cost Load Balancing: Maximum Paths for EIGRP
With the maximum-paths router configuration command, up to 32 equal-cost entries can be in the routing table for the same destination. The default is four.

I mean more than 90 percent qestion i have answered correctly on a first attemp and remaining question and explanation i have understood properly
@sabh samal
what is the maximum number of ospf equal paths can be in ospf routing table ??
booooooom!!!!!!!! now ccna certified 972.. many thanks to 9tut and everyone that shared their experience… wish others best of luck… CCNP,,, You’re next!!!!
hey guys, don’t just memorized the answers, you need to understand every detail of the answers for you to used in a real world, not just passing the exam =) . good luck to our exam!
@rmi the max number of ospf equal cost paths that are put in the ospf (and also eigrp) routing tables depends on the IOS version and router platform. Default is 4 and can be configured with the maximum-paths number OSPF or EIGRP subcommand
@erick so true! a prof told us he was interviewing a candidate who got an almost perfect score on the CCNA, but failed the interview really badly because he couldn’t answer basic questions
Please someone mail me the latest CCNA 200-120 dumps at vikaskushwah89@gmail.ccom.

-i saw a new question regarding advantages of OSPF areas,
some options were about LSA propagation time, CPU utilization of routers in a single area, etc
sorry i can’t recall the details
There is a new question in the premium file which goes like this:
Q: What are the two benefits of using a single ospf area in network design?
I forgot the choices but does anyone have the correct answer to this? Please help. Thanks.
What is the real answer to this?
What are two enhancements that OSPFv3 supports over OSPFv2? (Choose two.)
A. It requires the use of ARP.
B. It can support multiple IPv6 subnets on a single link.
C. It supports up to 2 instances of OSPFv3 over a common link.
D. It routes over links rather than over networks.
I see examtut says that it’s B, D but the premium vce file in examcollections says it is B, D.
@Kevin
B,D are the correct answer
@Kevin
B,D are the correct answer
Q3,8 were in the today exam
