show_ip_dhcp_conflict.jpg

A. The address is removed from the pool until the conflict is resolved.
B. The address remains in the pool until the conflict is resolved.
C. Only the IP detected by Gratuitous ARP is removed from the pool.
D. Only the IP detected by Ping is removed from the pool.
E. The IP will be shown, even after the conflict is resolved.

Answer: A

Question 2

How dose a DHCP server dynamically assign IP address to host?

A. Addresses are allocated after a negotiation between the server and the host to determine the length of the agreement.
B. Addresses are assigned for a fixed period of time. At the end of period, a new quest for an address must be made, and another address is then assigned.
C. Addresses are leased to host. A host will usually keep the same address by periodically contacting the DHCP sever to renew the lease.
D. Addresses are permanently assigned so that the host uses the same address at all times.

Answer: C

Question 3

Which two tasks does the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol perform? (Choose two)

A. Set the IP gateway to be used by the network.
B. Perform host discovery used DHCPDISCOVER message.
C. Configure IP address parameters from DHCP server to a host.
D. Provide an easy management of layer 3 devices.
E. Monitor IP performance using the DHCP server.
F. Assign and renew IP address from the default pool.

Answer: C F

Question 4

Which statement is correct regarding the operation of DHCP?

A. A DHCP client uses a ping to detect address conflicts.
B. A DHCP server uses a gratuitous ARP to detect DHCP clients.
C. A DHCP client uses a gratuitous ARP to detect a DHCP server.
D. If an address conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool and an administrator must resolve the conflict.
E. If an address conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool for an amount of time configurable by the administrator.
F. If an address conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool and will not be reused until the server is rebooted.

Answer: D

Explanation

An address conflict occurs when two hosts use the same IP address. During address assignment, DHCP checks for conflicts using ping and gratuitous ARP. If a conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool. The address will not be assigned until the administrator resolves the conflict.

    Question 4:

    Answer should be D.

If a conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool. The address will not be assigned until the administrator resolves the conflict. ”

I agree, I’m fairly positive the correct answer should be D. I would go with that on an exam.

    @518
    Regarding Q4.
Thanks for pointing the correct answer. I agree with you. I did check it out, and it says exactly what you have, word for word. Option D…….. (Related topic: CCNA)
However, the process might include rebooting the server. This is just a thought.

    @ 518

You are right ! I checked the Cisco tutorial on DHCP and it clearly states that ping and Gratuitous ARP are used to check for conflicts.

Thanks for pointing that out as I have been doing several tests and all of them had the wrong answer as valid.

    Regards

Not sure where the confusion is after I already pointed out why E is wrong. As a matter of fact, 9tut already made changes to reflect the correct answer.

If you are still asking why “dump” choose E, it’s because dumps doesn’t always right. That’s why you come to 9tut.com to collaborate and learn.

I just passed my CCNA a few days ago.

I used the following materials to prepare:
Todd Lammle CCNA Study Guide 7th Ed
    Cisco Command Ref Guide
    CBTNuggets ICND1 and ICND2 Videos
    PT 5.3
    9tut.com Sims

Donation has been sent to 9tut, thanks.

Looks like CCNA – Security is going to be easy.

Well i think what they’re trying to say is that why E is incorrect. What is the difference of the two answers. as I understand, answer D. PROMPTS an administrator to resolve the conflict. In answer E, The error IS configurable by the administrator. Therefore both answers will be configured or can be configured by the administrator. My question is the “amount of time”. will the conflicted IP address be returned to the pool in a certain “amount of time”? coz that will make answer E, incorrect based on the references provided.

The answer for Q4 has to be D. Check this out.

An address conflict occurs when two hosts use the same IP address. During address assignment, DHCP checks for conflicts using ping and gratuitous ARP. If a conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool. The address will not be assigned until the administrator resolves the conflict.

Dumps can be confusing..thank you 9tut.

In questions of the three options, if I hit 2 and miss 1, the whole question is invalidated?

  31. Zeppo
    March 17th, 2012

P.S., the reason I use this site is to get the test answer to the questions as opposed to the correct answers. I don’t want to miss a question because Cisco doesn’t bother actually testing the questions before using them.

    for Q4,
If you configure the router as DHCP server, D is correct.
If you configure the windows Server As a DHCP server, E is correct. There is a setting in windows you could set the hold down time for the conflict.

  34. Anonymous
    March 23rd, 2012

Since we are in for the CCNA exam not Microsoft. D is correct.

gratuitous arp is done by the local host to check if any other hosts on the network has that same IP address.

    @CLS
Layer 3 devices in Cisco world are routers and layer 3 (routing) switches.
DHCP does not manage these devices. DHCP does not provide any Layer 3 management; it negotiates and allocates IP addresses and any other IP information configured to hosts.
