Here you will find answers to DHCP Questions

Question 1

Refer to the exhibit. Which rule does the DHCP server use when there is an IP address conflict?

show_ip_dhcp_conflict.jpg

A. The address is removed from the pool until the conflict is resolved.
B. The address remains in the pool until the conflict is resolved.
C. Only the IP detected by Gratuitous ARP is removed from the pool.
D. Only the IP detected by Ping is removed from the pool.
E. The IP will be shown, even after the conflict is resolved.

Answer: A

Question 2

How dose a DHCP server dynamically assign IP address to host?

A. Addresses are allocated after a negotiation between the server and the host to determine the length of the agreement.
B. Addresses are assigned for a fixed period of time. At the end of period, a new quest for an address must be made, and another address is then assigned.
C. Addresses are leased to host. A host will usually keep the same address by periodically contacting the DHCP sever to renew the lease.
D. Addresses are permanently assigned so that the host uses the same address at all times.

Answer: C

Question 3

Which two tasks does the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol perform? (Choose two)

A. Set the IP gateway to be used by the network.
B. Perform host discovery used DHCPDISCOVER message.
C. Configure IP address parameters from DHCP server to a host.
D. Provide an easy management of layer 3 devices.
E. Monitor IP performance using the DHCP server.
F. Assign and renew IP address from the default pool.

Answer: C F

Question 4

Which statement is correct regarding the operation of DHCP?

A. A DHCP client uses a ping to detect address conflicts.
B. A DHCP server uses a gratuitous ARP to detect DHCP clients.
C. A DHCP client uses a gratuitous ARP to detect a DHCP server.
D. If an address conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool and an administrator must resolve the conflict.
E. If an address conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool for an amount of time configurable by the administrator.
F. If an address conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool and will not be reused until the server is rebooted.

Answer: D

Explanation

An address conflict occurs when two hosts use the same IP address. During address assignment, DHCP checks for conflicts using ping and gratuitous ARP. If a conflict is detected, the address is removed from the pool. The address will not be assigned until the administrator resolves the conflict.

Please can someone explain the question below and which is the correct answer:

The network admin is asked to configure 113 point-to-point links. Which IP addressing scheme best defines the address range and subnet mask that meet the requirement and waste the fewest subnet and host addresses.
    A) 10.10.0.0/16 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252
    B) 10.10.0.0/18 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252
    C) 10.10.1.0/24 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252
    D) 10.10.0.0/23 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252
    E) 10.10.1.0/25 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252

Thank you and I will appreciate explanation to the answer.

Here you go ruth, this question is on the 9tut questions but am not sure where exactly but the answer is D.

It normally requires 30 network bits to get a point to point links, the mask is 255.255.255.252
but we are asked to configure 113 networks, which requires 7 bits
    30-7 = 23 so 10.10.1.0/23 is the answer

@Ruth: For 113 point to point links, you have to create 2^7= 128 subnets.
So, the answer must be E(32-7=25) and actually point to point links are used with a subnet mask of /30.

    E) 10.10.1.0/25 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252

You need 113 networks (two host addresses, one subnet address, and one broadcast address). That is a total of 4 addresses per network. 113 x 4 = 452 addresses. We need to start with a network of 512 addresses ( /23 network). The correct answer is D.

    10.10.0.0/23 subnetted with mask 255.255.255.252
I think this question is wrong.
452 hosts with SNM 255.255.255.252 is not possible.

    Netmask: 255.255.254.0 = 23
    Network: 10.10.0.0/23 00001010.00001010.0000000 0.00000000 (Class A)
    Broadcast: 10.10.1.255 00001010.00001010.0000000 1.11111111
    HostMin: 10.10.0.1 00001010.00001010.0000000 0.00000001
    HostMax: 10.10.1.254 00001010.00001010.0000000 1.11111110
    Hosts/Net: 510 (Private Internet)

Please correct me if I am wrong.

DHCP q4 ans is D cause without the admin changing the duplicate ip the dhcp conflict will continue. Assuming E is correct if the dhcp removes the ip for say 15 mins and again tries after 15 mins the issue will still be there because only static ip configured or manually fed ip address can be changed only by admin intervention. DHCP will not assign ip addresses already leased by it. . it stores the mac addresss in its table of the hosts to which it has leased the ip addresses. the entry will get deleted and the ip alloted to that host will be free only when the host is powered off or the lan connection is reset or disabled.so as long as the lan connection is enabled the ip address allotted by DHCP will stay or upto 24 hrs (default lease period) .any doubts please free to ask
