Hotspot Frame-relay Question

hotspotquestion2

hotspotframerelay

(In the old days, this question was a multi-choice question but Cisco upgraded it into a lab-sim question. Therefore, instead of listing all the configuration as above, you have to type show frame-relay map and show running-config to get its configuration)

Note: If you are not sure about Frame-Relay, please read my Frame Relay tutorial.

Question 1:

What destination Layer 2 address will be used in the frame header containing a packet for host 172.30.0.4?

A – 704
B – 196
C – 702
D – 344

Answer: C

Question 2:

A static map to the S-AMER location is required. Which command should be used to create this map?

A – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 704 broadcast
B – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 196 broadcast
C – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 702 broadcast
D – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 344 broadcast

Answer: B

Question 3:

Which connection uses the default encapsulation for serial interfaces on Cisco routers?

A – The serial connection to the MidEast branch office
B – The serial connection to the DeepSouth branch office
C – The serial connection to the NorthCentral branch office
D – The serial connection to the Multinational Core

Answer: A

Question 4:

If required, what password should be configured on the router in the MidEast branch office to allow a connection to be established with the Dubai router?

A – No password is required
B – Enable
C – Scr
D – Telnet
E – Console

Answer: A or D (because maybe there are 2 versions of this question, depending on the output of “show running-config” command, please read the explanation below)

Explanation

This question is not clear for a long time but now maybe the trick was solved. What Cisco wants to ask is the word used as password, not the type of connection, so in the exam you might see some strange words for answers like “En8ble”, “T1net”, “C0nsole”. All you have to do is to use the command “show running-config” as wx4 mentioned below to find the answer.

wx4 commented:

Q4: if password required which?
in my example it was connection to North!

How to figure out which pw is required?

#show running-config

1. check the interface to the router you need connection to. If there is “ppp authentication” you need a password!

2. you will find the password on the top of your running-config output

check the area:

username North password c0nsole
username xxxxx yyyyy
username…

in my case it was c0nsole, in your case it can be no password needed or a different password.

If you are still not clear, please read anton‘s comment:

A big question I noticed here was about the FR Lab regarding the password. You have to perform a show running-config and look for USERNAME and PASSWORD.
i.e.
username South_Router password c0nsol3
username North_Router password t31net

Obviously this has to be en PPP encapsulation, if asked for a posible password for SOUTH_ROUTER you pick c0nsol3, and for NORTH_ROUTER you pick t31net. If you’re running HDLC, i would pick “no password is required”.

    Hotspot Routing Question 3

    Here is something I found that might be of help to anyone needing to confirm this answer. If you have another source, please let us know. Thanks

    Serial interfaces don’t use Ethernet framing techniques, but by default, Cisco routers use something called High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) to frame the packet. When serial interfaces are used, though, it’s not called framing; it’s known as “encapsulating.” And because this is a point-to-point circuit, hardware addresses aren’t used or needed. Instead, HDLC encapsulation is sent out one bit at a time to the next router.

    Another Hotspot Routing Question

    R1 forwards a packet from host 1 to remote Server 1. Which statement describes the
    use of a MAC as the frame carring this packet leaves the s0/0/0 interface of R1?

    A. The frame does not have MAC addresses.
    B. The destination MAC addresses in the frame is the MAC address of the s0/0/0 interface of R2.
    c. The source MAC address in the frame is the MAC address of the s0/0/0 interface of R1.
    D. The destination MAC address in the frame is the MAC address of the NIC of server 1.
    E. The source MAC address in the frame is the MAC address of the NIC of Host 1.

    So which answer would be the right one

    @Jimi

    Options. B and C.

    Source IP and Destination IP stays the same along the path. Only the Source and Destination Mac address changes along the path.

    @koffy @jimi
    serial to serial does’nt have Mac, it’s either hdlc or ppp or frame relay-DLCI, so answer is A.

    Q3 .Hotspot Routing Question..
    plz explain how C can be answer?…compare both answer (C,D).
    is it anskin encapsulation type ?

  10. xallax
    December 12th, 2011

    @z
    it says nothing about encapsulation type, just how many frames
    host1 to router1 = 1 frame
    router1 to router2 = 1 frame
    router2 to server = 1 frame
    1+1+1 = 3

  11. Jimi
    December 12th, 2011

    @z
    Thats right, the serial link doesn’t use ethernet framing but it uses hdlc or ppp or frame-relay to frame the packet. Though, they call it encapsulating, it’s still framed.

    c. The source MAC address in the frame is the MAC address of the s0/0/0 interface of R1.

  15. Mohan Muthu
    December 16th, 2011

    This was alreay correctly answered by ccent2ccna.

    On serial interfaces, there are no MAC addresses. So the answer is “A”

    Hotspot Frame-relay Question (****NEW QUESTION****)

    If required, what password should be configured on the DeepSouth router in the branch office to allow a connection to be established with the MidEast router?

    A.Enable
    B.Telnet
    C.Secret
    D.No password is required
    E.console

    The practice test said it was A.Enable. Could someone please explain to me why this is A. Thanks

  18. Anonymous
    December 21st, 2011

    @Anon and Oana

    A. is correct, MAC addresses are not used on serial interfaces. It will be a layer 2 WAN address like PPP or HDLC.

  19. Anonymous
    December 21st, 2011

    @Jimi

    Read the explanation with the question above!!!!!

    You need to find out what the encapsulation is first before you can answer that.
    Use show run con to view the encapsualtion and password (if used).

    For question #4, I read the explanation, but can someone clear up one thing for me please?
    Let’s say we have the exact question as #4.
    “If required, what password should be configured on the router in the MidEast branch office to allow a connection to be established with the Dubai router?”

    I don’t know what section of my book I can find how to do this… so I’ll ask here.
    1. Which router do I need to go to to find the answer for this question. Do I need to go and check the running-config of MidEast branch Router or go to the Dubai Router and check the running-config.
    2. Please provide the format the password info is written….
    i.e.: username _________ password c0nsol3

    Thank you.

  36. Anju
    January 17th, 2012

    @QG,
    As far as I understood, int s1/1 of Dubai router is connected to MidEast branch office .
    running-config of Dubai router shows that , WAN encapsulation is HDLC (default) and there is no authentication mechanism involved in HDLC. So there is no password required.

    So the Ans is “A”

    So, i took the ICND2 today! 790! needed 825! This one was on it and the show run indeed does NOT work. Did not try the show tech-support as suggested above. In fact “show ?” does not even give you the option. You also do not have the option to enable or config t. Personally, i think this is bogus. Anyway, I probably got the serial question wrong regarding MAC addresses. That was a good point made above. Thanks for that.
