Question 1:

If the router R1 has a packet with a destination address 192.168.1.255, what describes the operation of the network?

A – R1 will forward the packet out all interfaces
B – R1 will drop this packet because it is not a valid IP address
C – As R1 forwards the frame containing this packet, Sw-A will add 192.168.1.255 to its MAC table
D – R1 will encapsulate the packet in a frame with a destination MAC address of FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF
E – As R1 forwards the frame containing this packet, Sw-A will forward it ti the device assigned the IP address of 192.168.1.255

Answer: B

Question 2:

Users on the 192.168.1.0/24 network must access files located on the Server 1. What route could be configured on router R1 for file requests to reach the server?

Hotspot Frame-relay Question

hotspotquestion2

hotspotframerelay

(In the old days, this question was a multi-choice question but Cisco upgraded it into a lab-sim question. Therefore, instead of listing all the configuration as above, you have to type show frame-relay map and show running-config to get its configuration)

Note: If you are not sure about Frame-Relay, please read my Frame Relay tutorial.

Question 1:

What destination Layer 2 address will be used in the frame header containing a packet for host 172.30.0.4?

A – 704
B – 196
C – 702
D – 344

Answer: C

Question 2:

A static map to the S-AMER location is required. Which command should be used to create this map?

A – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 704 broadcast
B – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 196 broadcast
C – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 702 broadcast
D – frame-relay map ip 172.30.0.3 344 broadcast

Answer: B

Question 3:

Which connection uses the default encapsulation for serial interfaces on Cisco routers?

A – The serial connection to the MidEast branch office
B – The serial connection to the DeepSouth branch office
C – The serial connection to the NorthCentral branch office
D – The serial connection to the Multinational Core

Answer: A

Question 4:

If required, what password should be configured on the router in the MidEast branch office to allow a connection to be established with the Dubai router?

A – No password is required
B – Enable
C – Scr
D – Telnet
E – Console

Answer: A or D (because maybe there are 2 versions of this question, depending on the output of “show running-config” command, please read the explanation below)

Explanation

This question is not clear for a long time but now maybe the trick was solved. What Cisco wants to ask is the word used as password, not the type of connection, so in the exam you might see some strange words for answers like “En8ble”, “T1net”, “C0nsole”. All you have to do is to use the command “show running-config” as wx4 mentioned below to find the answer.

wx4 commented:

Q4: if password required which?
in my example it was connection to North!

How to figure out which pw is required?

#show running-config

1. check the interface to the router you need connection to. If there is “ppp authentication” you need a password!

2. you will find the password on the top of your running-config output

check the area:

username North password c0nsole
username xxxxx yyyyy
username…

in my case it was c0nsole, in your case it can be no password needed or a different password.

If you are still not clear, please read anton‘s comment:

A big question I noticed here was about the FR Lab regarding the password. You have to perform a show running-config and look for USERNAME and PASSWORD.
i.e.
username South_Router password c0nsol3
username North_Router password t31net

Obviously this has to be en PPP encapsulation, if asked for a posible password for SOUTH_ROUTER you pick c0nsol3, and for NORTH_ROUTER you pick t31net. If you’re running HDLC, i would pick “no password is required”.

I think D should be the answer for this question coz the question is asking us which password will be required on Middle East in other to telnet into the Dubai router. And we are looking at the running config of Dubai router which states that the vty password is set for T1net, definitely for Mid east to connect to the Dubai it will have to enter the telnet password on Dubai, or else it will not gain access to the Dubai router. I think @Stuart should read the question over again.

    October 12th, 2012

Infact, before a remote connection (or telnet)can occur the vty password has to be set, Therefore, the Mid east has to know the vty password of Dubai before it can have access to the remote router(Dubai).

I got that answer from the Explanation which make a little sense. Now look at the question.. it does not specifically say “inorder for a telnet connection to be establish as you suggest” Then look the question on the other angle though.. it say “if required what password should be configured on the router in the MidEast branch office” the key statement here is”should be configured and not “should be use” if the question mention about “should be use” yes you can say D is correct answer but A is. Whoever post the Explanation below the question saw the trap of this question.

Cleared ICND 2 with 860 score (second attempt), this question was there.. most of the questions like say 35 of them came from this site. I got little smarter the second time. Instead of depending on ICND2 section on this site which cause me to have 804 score on first attempt, I went through the entire CCNA Website too like trifector (three times) combine with CISCO press book by Wendel Odom before my second attempt and it pays. Shooting for CCNA Voice and CCNA Wireless now.

    @9tut & xallax :

    Please answer this question:

In order to establish a connection to mid east router from deepsouth router what password would be required?

A – No password is required
    B – Enable
    C – Scr
    D – Telnet
    E – Console

I understand deepSouth router has ppp encapsulation with no authentication type specified. And mid east router has HDLC encapsulation. How can you establish a connection with MidEast router since HDLC-PP encapsulation mismatch occurs. In the only scenario possible u can make a telnet connection to dubai router and via dubai router connect to MisEast router via telnet. In such a scneario password required would be “tlnet” .

The answer porvided was “no Password required” and “enable” in many sources over the net.

    Kindly help me :)

    Thanks in advance

All the encapsulation you are seeing is because the command “show run” was done in Dubai so these encapsulation are set on the Dubai router serial interface so obvious the other router on the other end should have same match encapsulation otherwise line protocol status will display “down”. With this in mind you will see my previous comments comes along with A as the answer. The Explanation below that question sum it up.. this question is tricky!

@ yahya: After giving dest address (209.165.200.0) & Subnet musk (255.255.255.0) we have to give Next hop (209.165.100.250) or exit interface (s0/0/0).

But in B & C : Next hop is wrong.
In D : dest address is wrong.

So, A is correct coz it is a default routing.

Well, you most certainly CAN skip a question without answering it, but you cannot go back to it, so it is best to make a good educated guess after thinking about it for a couple of minutes and move on. 75 minutes goes by quickly

  23. Typo???
    November 13th, 2012

I’ve sat the ICND2 twice (and failed obviously). Each time I got the frame relay simlet.

Each time the IP addresses shown in the #show frame-relay map command don’t match the addresses given in the question. For instance,
“What destination Layer 2 address will be used in the frame header containing a packet for host 172.30.0.4?”

    #show frame-relay map shows…
    a – 192.168.2.0 dlci 704
    b – 192.168.3.0 dlci 196
    c – 192.168.4.0 dlci 702
    d – 192.168.5.0 dlci 344

None of these match the question. With the above info I answered C as it’s the closest match, although wrong.

Does anybody know if this is the correct answer or am I missing the point completely

    thanks in advance

  24. Oleg Mavashev
    November 22nd, 2012

@Typo??? The answer “C” is definately correct in this case, because router will incapsulate frame into packet with local DLCI number which is assigned to appropriate connection (e.g to PVC which is connected to EURASIA router in this case). The Frame Relay switch then will re-encapsulate frame with DLCI which belongs to EURASIA router. Refer to W.Odom’s ICND2 book.

@Typo??? I just came from the exam, and got exactly same simlet with same question as you mentioned. All I did – run “show ip route” command, found gateway interface for this route and then found matched DLCI number using the output of “show frame-relay map” Hope it helps. btw, passed exam with overall score 916 from first attempt, thanks to Odom and 9tut!

Frame Relay: Q4 – Answer A – No password required
Explanation: The question does not state how a connection is to be established. There is no mention of telnetting into the Dubai router from the MidEast router so D is not an option.
    B C and E do not apply.

I just failed for my third time and I am apopoliptic!! the second frame relay Q came up and on two of the four questions there was a problem; one was that there were no usernames, passwords at the top of the “show run” output, and I used the “show cdp neighbors detail” command to find the ip address, then when I attempted to telnet to the router, I received the error message,” connection disconnected” arrrrrgggggggghhhhhh

then, on the fourth question, when asking about which IP address is associated with which DLCI, the answers were WRONG!! then didn’t match the output shown by the “show frame-relay map”

arrrrgggghhhhh TRICK QUESTIONS!! I called cisco and instituted an incident report. another thing that really bothers me is that we can’t find out what we got wrong!! this is not right, and if one question is wrong, then either the entire test is flawed as well as the computer systems that grade it. it amounts to restriction of trade!! I smell a lawsuit.

HOW does one determine if a neighboring router needs a password? other than trying to telnet to that router and then seeing if there is a prompt for a password.

Excuse me if you can explain why the answer is A ?? and why not B correct or C or D

  38. ADN
    December 15th, 2012

    Hi Sam,

B – Incorrect because the next hop 209.165.200.226 is not the ISP interface IP (209.165.100.200)

C – Incorrect because the next hop 192.168.1.250 is LAN interface of the Router and the frame should be sent to internet not to the LAN

D – Incorrect because the next hop 209.165.100.250 is the Router Wan IP and not the ISP interface IP like it should be

A – Correct because it covers all ranges of IP addresses (including the Web server) and it will send the frames out of the interface S0/0/0 which is a Point-to-Point interface to the ISP

Received a variance of this question. It asks for a frame-relay map to the 172.30.30.3 network. As the running config and frame-relay maps don’t drill down to the LAN subnets associated with the routers you need to take a look at the routing tables to find the answer. The router shows the next hop address to the requested subnet that can then be compared to the frame-relay map statements to discover the DLCI.

    “show ip route”
    - gather info on next hop ip address
    - use next hope ip to find correct map statement

    Kabir,
Q3 Which connection uses the default encapsulation for serial interfaces on Cisco routers?

in the “show run” output only S1/1 has no visual encapsulation setting, meaning that is the default (HDLC)..
All the other serial interfaces have been changed to either frame-relay or PPP..
